Mumbai, Jun 8: Best Bakery witness Zaheera Shaikh, undergoing a one-year jail term imposed by Supreme Court for contempt of court, has started learning computer skills in prison and turned vegetarian.
"She is taking a computer course in Byculla jail and has also started learning English," her lawyer Umesh Deshpande said. Zaheera is concerned about her future and has taken computer education very seriously, he said. She has also turned vegetarian, Deshpande said.
When Zaheera was arrested three months ago, jail authorities had complained to the court that she had been demanding non-vegetarian dishes, which was difficult for them to provide. But, with time, Zaheera has learnt to adjust and has switched to vegetarian food, her lawayer said.
Zaheera spends most of her time offering namaz and writing letters to her lawyer and relatives, besides learning computer technology and English. Though Zaheera's mother, Sehrunissa, is very anxious to get her married, Zaheera would rather build her career than settle down.
Sehrunissa wants her daughter to learn "zari" embroidery for a living, while her brother Nasibullah has become a scrap dealer and wants Zaheera to join him in business, Deshpande said.
