Pune, Jun 8: President A P J Abdul Kalam, who undertook a historic 30 minutes sortie in a Sukhoi-30 MKI on Thursday morning, landed at the Pune air base.
Wing Commander Ajay Rathore, commanding officer of the SU-30 MKI squadron flew the President.
Kalam was given instructions by senior Air Force officials before the take off. He donned the G-suit before boarding the aircraft.
Kalam, who is on a two-day visit to Pune, entered the airbase at 9.15 a.m.
He was received by Air Marshal Ajit Bhavnani, Vice Chief of Air (VCAS), Air Marshal P K Mehta, Air Officer Commanding in-Chief, South Western Air Command (SWAC) and Air Commodore M Banerjee, Air Officer Commanding Air Force Base, Pune.
Air Warriors of the airbase presented a ceremonial guard of honour to the President at the lightning squadron tarmac.
Two Sukhois accompanied Kalam, and the President was shown how to locate a target in the air and a target on the ground with the help of radar, Air Commodore M Banerjee, told reporters.
Kalam flew at a height of 6 to 8 km in the air, Banerjee said.
