Mumbai, Mar 23: Yashwant Vithoba Chittal, one of the leading Kannada fiction writers and recipient of Sahitya Academy Award passed away on Saturday March 23. He was 85. He died at a private hospital in Mumbai after a brief illness.
The deceased is survived by his wife Yashawanth Chittal and two sons.
Hundreds of literati, journalists and fans reached Chittal's house to pay homage. He lived at Band Stand Apartment, Bandra East for many years and was admitted to hospital last week.
Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino, former president Kasaragod Chinna, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Eric Ozario and many others expressed condolences.
The last rites will be held at Shivaji Park, Dadar East in the afternoon on Sunday, March 23.
Literary works
Chittal wrote several short stories and novels. He also authored literary critiques and essays. He won many prestigious awards including the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979, 1980, and 1990, the Sahitya Akademi award in 1983, Dr Masti Award in 1983 and Adikavi Pampa Award in 2008.
