New Delhi, Jun 7: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, his son Akhilesh and other members of the family to place before it returns of the income tax and wealth tax filed by them for the assessment years of 2001-2006.
An order to this effect was passed by a vacation Bench, comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice C K Thakker, on a petition filed by one Vishwanath Chaturvedi from Uttar Pradesh alleging that the Chief Minister and his family members have accumulated assets more than their known source of income.
However, the Bench kept open to examine the bonafide of the petitioner after Yadavs' counsel Mukul Rohtagi stated that his credentials have to be examined.
Chaturvedi, in his petition, has alleged that the Chief Minister has amassed wealth worth crores of rupees through corrupt means and misuse of his official position.
