Allahabad, Jun 4: A Sub Inspector of Maharashtra police has been arrested for allegedly molesting a girl on board the Patna-Kurla-Lokmanya Tilak Express train near here, Railway Police sources said on Saturday.

Gyandev Adhav, Sub Inspector of MRA Marg police station in Mumbai, was arrested for molesting a 21-year-old girl who was travelling to her native district of Ara in Bihar along with her parents, they said.

When the train was passing through Manikpur near here, the girl went towards the toilet and Adhav tried to drag her to a secluded corner and outrage her modesty, they said.

The girl then raised an alarm following which a number of passengers rushed to the spot and began to thrash the Sub Inspector. Railway Police personnel travelling in the train then took him into custody and handed him over to the GRP at the Naini railway station, they said.

The victim stays with her family in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, they said.

Interrogation revealed that Adhav was a Sub Inspector with Maharashtra Police and was on his way to Allahabad in connection with the investigation of a case, they added.

This is the third such incident in this area in last three weeks. A fortnight ago, the guard of New Delhi-Varanasi Shivganga express was caught trying to molest a young woman.

Earlier this week, a coach attendant of the New Delhi-Guwahati Rajdhani Express was caught for a similar offence.
