Udupi, Mar 10: The Catholic Women’s Association, Udupi, celebrated ‘Women’s Day’ at Don Bosco Hall, recently.
The formal function began with a high mass led by Fr Valerian Mendonca, Diocese Chancellor, Udupi. The programme continued with a prayer by the Udupi unit.
The programme was inaugurated by Fr Baptist Menezes, Udupi Diocese Chancellor. The inaugural was conducted in a unique manner by adding compost to a plant.
During the inaugural speech, he said, “I have fond memories of my mother and her affection and faith towards me. I grew up with lots of love and care which is part of my success today. A woman must not restrict herself to only domestic work for she deserves better. Women must participate in the political arena too. A woman’s existence makes us rich and helps us to lead a successful life.”
Fr Dias blessed the gathering. Two personalities were felicitated for their services in organizing the event.
Violet Castelino, president, Udupi Diocese Catholic Stri Sanghatan, Udupi District, congratulated the women’s association on creating a new unit at Manipal, which is a wing of the Udupi church.
The resource person of this programme, Rezinald Pinto, director, social service organization, spoke on the topic of ‘Unity is the Strength of Women’.
He said that rendering services in small units helps unite for self growth, to improve knowledge, to share experiences, to innovate, to build leadership qualities, and to improve relationships among individuals.
Glady Saldanha, resource person, secretary, Catholic Stri Sanghatan, Udupi ward, also spoke on the occasion and presented the report. Saritha Alva, principal, Moodubelle, discussed the topic of ‘Problems of Women and their Solutions’.
The formal function was followed by a variety entertainment programme presented by nine Udupi sections.
Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Fr Roque D’Souza, Catholic Stri Sangatan, Udupi ward, Sr Treza Martis, animator, Irene Pereira, president, Udupi Catholic Stri Sanghatan, and others were present.
