Mumbai, Jun 1: Seven vehicles were involved in a bizarre accident on the Western Express Highway in Goregaon (E) at 3.30 am on Thursday.

The vehicles included two autorickshaws, one of which fell into a ditch. Fortunately, the driver suffered no serious injuries.

The accident occurred after two vehicles — a towing van and one of the rickshaws — crashed into each other at one end of the Aarey flyover. Both drivers were apparently distracted by a minor accident on the side of the road.

Their collision led to a pile-up, as five more vehicles, unable to brake in time, hit them from behind. One of these was the second rickshaw (above), which landed in the ditch.

The auto was later hauled out and left on the side of the road with the rest of the vehicles. The accident involved — apart from the two rickshaws and the towing van — a Mahindra jeep, Sumo, Indica and Zen.
