Sanaa, March 6 (IANS): A Yemeni intelligence official was assassinated Thursday near Sanaa International Airport in the capital.
A security source told Xinhua that two gunmen on a motorcycle shot a colonel of the intelligence body while he was passing a main street near the airport in northern Sanaa. The gunmen fled the scene before government soldiers arrived.
The Yemeni authorities banned motorcycles in the capital last December after officials were frequently assassinated by gunmen, but drew criticism from local residents who earned their living from running motorcycles.
The assassination happened a week after the ban was lifted.
