Russian tourists top arrivals in Goa

Panaji, March 4 (IANS): Russian tourists topped the arrival charts in Goa in 2013 as far as foreign tourists are concerned.

About 1.62 lakh Russian tourists arrived in Goa during the year as compared to approximately 1.45 lakh tourists from Britain. Germany ranked third in the list of tourist arrivals in Goa, followed by Finns, French and Swedish tourists.

Over the last decade, Goa has become an increasingly attractive destination for Russian nationals especially during the winter months.

The increasing number of Russians has, however, coincided with a series of conflicts between Russians and locals over the issue of cornering tourism-related businesses.
