Ajman, Mar 2: The Gulf Medical University has announced its 13th Annual GMU Sports Festival to be held from March 8 - March 13 at GMU Sports Complex in Ajman.

The Draw of Lots for 13th Annual GMU Sports Festival was conducted on February 27 at Gulf Medical University, Ajman. Prof Ishtiyaq Ahmed Shaafie, Chairman Sports Committee, welcomed the sports representatives, directors and the participating teams from 23 colleges and universities from all over the UAE.

He read out the special wishes from Thumbay Moideen, founder president, Board of Governors, GMU, and the Provost, Prof Gita Ashok Raj, wishing the teams all the best and congratulating them for their enthusiastic participation.

Prof Ishtiyaq specially thanked the founder president for his guidance and constant support in carrying out the sports festivals and extracurricular activities at GMU. "We are expecting maximum participation from all the institutions and we will break all previous records, in terms of number of teams vying for top honors," he said.

Prof Mohammed Arifulla, dean admissions and registers, GMU was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the sports directors and officials from various participating institutions, Prof Arifulla highlighted the progress made by GMU in the field of academics and extracurricular activities over the last 15 years.

He wished all the best to the participating institutes.

The various teams will be vying for the top honors in the following tournaments:

Boys:   Cricket, Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Squash and Swimming

Girls:    Cricket, Football, Throwball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Swimming
