Kumbakonam, May 30: Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi would discuss the issue of Congress joining the state government with its president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi soon, Union Minister of State for Textiles and former TNCC president E V K S Elangovan said on Monday.
Talking to reporters here, he said that Congressmen "have been demanding a berth in the state cabinet".
However, the party unit would abide by any decision taken by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the matter.
"They are prepared to accept either ministerial berths or postings in the various Boards or Corporations or both", he added.
He alleged that AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa had tried to "incite violence within the Assembly" when she addressed the session recently. However, the Chief Minister "tactfully" handled the situation.
The ruling DMK was taking steps to implement the election promises. He said the implementation of various schemes including Rs 2 per kg rice would "affect" the economy, but hoped the government would overcome the problem.
