Mumbai, Feb 24: The Maharashtra government has been called by the Home Ministry to answer for having granted actor Sanjay Dutt parole three times and that too within a year. Convicted by the Supreme Court for illegal possession of arms during the 1993 Mumbai Serial Blasts, Sanjay Dutt had been carrying out his 6 year imprisonment. It is expected to submit a report explaining its actions in the matter.
He was out on parole since the 21st of December. When it was time to return to jail, Dutt applied and was granted another parole. The parole he had requested to attend to his wife Manyatta Dutt and their twin children has been extended till the 21st of March, 2014. Dutt's repeated paroles came glaringly into question when the very next day of his return home, his wife was photographed at a late night party.
The Bombay High Court will be hearing a petition regarding the wisdom of the authorities in granting repeated paroles to the actor. The Maharashtra Government in the meantime has made in clear that it will be looking into reports which stated that the 54 year old actor had been provided alcohol during his time in jail.
