Sleek and stylish: Fourth annual Qatar Motor Show opens

Doha, Feb 22 (Gulf Times): The fourth annual Qatar Motor Show, being held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, began yesterday at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti opened the event in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari and other dignitaries.
As many as 42 different cars and motorcycle brands are being showcased at this year’s event, which will be open to the public today and tomorrow from 1 pm to 10 pm. The timings from Sunday to Tuesday are 4 pm to 10 pm. Entry is free.
The event, organised by the Qatar Tourism Authority, q.media events and Fira Barcelona, features some of the most notable international carmakers showcasing their newest models.
Volkswagen, Porsche, Bentley, Ford, Renault, Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes Benz, Infiniti, Nissan, McLaren, Toyota, Lexus, Chevrolet, Cadillac, BMW, Mini, Maserati, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and Bugatti are among the brands.
The opening day witnessed a number of unveils. Alfardan Automobiles presented the BMW i8, described as the “sports car of the future.” The French multinational auto giant Renault hosted the Middle East debut of its “truly innovative” 100% electric micro vehicle Twizy.
Nasser Bin Khaled Automobiles unveiled the Mercedes-Benz Concept S-class Coupe and the new CLA 45 AMG four-door coupé. The other major unveils included Volkswagen’s new Golf R, the new Audi A8 range and nanuk quattro concept, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe full-size SUV, Porsche’s new compact SUV Macan, Infiniti’s Q50 and Q50 Hybrid, Maserati’s Ghibli, and the 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan.
Among the regional premieres were Porsche’s super sports car 918 Spyder, the compact SUV Macan, the 911 Targa 4S, the new Cayenne Platinum Edition, and a long wheelbase Executive version of the Panamera Turbo S.
The QMS organisers are confident they will break last year’s record of 150,000 attendees.
