Mangalore, Feb 21: In what appears to be a case of moral policing, a youth was allegedly assaulted by a group of four at Suratkal beach here on Friday February 21, for being with a minor girl from another community.
The youth, 21-year-old Nisar, was admitted to a hospital in Suratkal and later shifted to another hospital in the city. He is said to be in the ICU in an unconscious state.
Sources said that Nisar had gone to the beach with a girl who is said to be a minor. Four youths who came to know about it approached him at the beach and allegedly assaulted him.
The police on receiving information rushed to the spot and shifted Nisar to a nearby hospital. As his condition was serious, he was brought to a private hospital in the city and admitted to its ICU.
Nisar's mother and aunt who were in hospital said that they did not know who attacked Nisar and that only he would be able to reveal their identities.
When a police inspector came to the hospital in connection with the case, Nisar's mother and aunt urged him to investigate the incident thoroughly and arrest the culprits without delay, and threatened to commit suicide if their demand was not met.
Although no formal complaint has been registered, the police have taken suo motu action and arrested four persons. Their identities are not yet divulged.
Nisar is pursuing a computer course at Suratkal and also has a part time job of distributing newspapers.
Sources said that a few days back his cousin was also attacked by miscreants over some issue.
It is learnt that the parents of the minor girl are contemplating filing a complaint against Nisar.
