Mangalore, Feb 20: Launching a scathing attack on Narendra Modi's rally in Mangalore, former union minister Janardhan Poojary in an exclusive interview to daijiworld claimed that the BJP prime ministrial candidate made 'fake' promises of development and did his best to brainwash the crowd at Nehru Maidan. Poojary also insisted that he is not afraid of the Modi wave propaganda generated by BJP in the district.
Poojary speaking to daijiworld on Modi's visit to the city, took a dig at the latter saying, "Modi in all of his public rallies created blunders of history and manipulated the truth to veil his criminal personality. Even though a huge crowd descended on the Central Maidan, the question that has to be asked is 'who are those people'?"
"The people who arrived to attend the much hyped Modi rally are staunch workers of the party from different districts and state namely, Shimoga, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kasargod and Chikmagalur. If the Modi wave has indeed infused among the people, then people should have gathered in larger numbers than they did," he added.
"BJP is spending crores on Modi rallies, Congress cannot spend so much. Who is funding Modi?" he demanded.
When asked to comment on Modi's strong criticism on Congress party's corruption, he said, "The chief minister of Gujarat does not have any moral right to talk on corruption as his cabinet and he himself have been indulging in corrupt practices. Party's PM candidate has to be an example to the people of the nation, but Modi is a sick man."
Commenting on Modi's developmental mantra and his jibe at Congress that it considered development a bane, the former union minister countered saying that the endless list of ports, road links, railway lines, airways, industries, telecom sector, education sector, health sector, IT, green revolution and so on had been integrated in the country after 1947. "Who was in power those days? Was it BJP? Modi was putting forth frivolous statements at the rally to mobilize the votes," he alleged.
When quizzed if instances of corruption in Congress party were just allegations by rival parties, he replied, "Yes they are just only allegations and those who actually indulged in corruption were sacked from the party.
"Can't he see the corruption in Karnataka BJP? Here is a candidate for prime minister's post sharing the dais with the corrupt former chief minister Yeddyurappa," he pointed out.
Lauding A B Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani he said, "I respect these people for their sincerity to towards their party. But Modi is growing above the party and he is galvanizing support not to make India victorious but rather to wield his ill wishes destroying the integrity of the nation. He sounds like a fascist by his very acts."
On why Congress is making such a hue and cry about 2002 Gujarat riots, Poojary said Modi was solely responsible for the riots that took place in his state and due to which most of the police officials are suffering now. "Hence the people of India should know the reality about this man who conspired the mass massacre," he said.
However, Poojary in his typical style and confidence asserted that he was not afraid of the Modi wave. "I was defeated in the district four times due to the canards spread by BJP. Those days BJP went on claiming that if Poojary comes to power, women in the district would be unsafe.
"After my last defeat I vociferously camped here for five years. I believe people of the district have understood my developmental concepts and my past which will turn into votes in the elections this time," he said.
