Udupi, Feb 19: A woman hailing from Madikeri committed suicide on the night of Tuesday February 18, allegedly due to harassment by husband.

The deceased, Tahira (30), was married to Mohammed Hanif, a resident of Janata Colony, Karamballi in Shivalli here.

It is said that Tahira had gone missing last month and a complaint in this regard had been filed by her husband in Manipal police station on January 16. However, she returned home on her own some two days later.

Hailing from Madikeri, she had married Hanif 13 years ago and the couple were blessed with a son and a daughter who are now aged 10 and 11 years.

On Tuesday night, Tahira reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope at her husband's house. She was rushed to a hospital where she breathed her last.

On Wednesday February 19, Tahira's mother and brother came to Manipal and filed a case of harassment against Hanif. The mother alleged that Hanif had been repeatedly torturing her daughter, demanding her to bring money from her brother who stays in Dubai, and not letting her visit her parental house for several years.

The body was shifted to the mortuary in Ajjarkad hospital.

Manipal police have registered a case and investigations are on.

After 13 year of married life I don't believe any harassment. I think in this case husband is not guilty. More investigation is important

Looks bit suspicious. If she wanted to commit suicide, she would have done Long ago as she went missing. Now she is back must have had some miunderstading at home and the result either she self or someone "helped"to get rid´off.she would surely not done because of the children.Poor children,my sympathy to the Family.May her Soul rest in peace.
