Chamarajanagar, Feb 17: Two persons, who have been accused of beheading two entrepreneurs from Bangalore and then burning their bodies by using petrol, were arrested by the Kollegal police on Sunday February 16. Another accused, who reportedly was an accomplice in the crime, succeeded in escaping.
Binnose Thomas and Suji Thomas
The arrested persons have been identified as T Arun Rao, who owns Usha Farm House near Jageri, and Ningaraju, employed by Rao for the upkeep of his farm house. Rao owns Tamara Building Construction with its office at Shivanandanagar in New Tipsandra, Bangalore, while Ningaraju hails from Puttashettidoddi village in Kollegal taluk.
They, along with Rudragouda Patil from Bijapur, who was hired by Rao as his car driver, had allegedly murdered Suji Thomas (35) and Binnose Thomas (32) from HSR Layout in Bangalore, in relation to recovery of Rs 2.45 crore lent to him by Rao, said district superintendent of police, Dr Rajendra Prasad. He informed that an investigation team led by the deputy superintendent of police formed for this purpose has made these arrests.
It is said that Suji Thomas, who came in contact with Rao at a club in Indiranagar Bangalore, told the latter that he was engaged in conducting oil business in Kuwait, and invited Rao to join the business. Rao, enticed by the lucrative offer of making fast buck, invested Rs 2.45 crore with Suji.
Later, as the money was not repaid, Rao filed a complaint of fraud in Baiyappanahalli police station, Bangalore, against Suji in 2012. Although Suji, who had failed to invest the money in business, promised to repay the sum instalments, Rao, who was angry at the fact that he was deceived, invited the latter to come to Sattegal on February 7.
Suji came to Sattegal in a car with his friend, Binnose. Rao reportedly confessed that both were taken by him in his car into the forest region from Sattegal before killing them. Binnose was killed as he would have informed the police about the murder if left untouched, he revealed to the police. After tying up both the victims with ropes and killing them with the help of boulders and rods in Yemmatti forest area, their heads were severed with knives, their clothes were removed, and the bodies were set on fire in an effort to destroy the evidence, the arrested persons told the police. They also said that the severed heads, blood-stained clothes, rods, knives etc were placed in a gunny bag along with some stones, before dropping this bag off into a channel of Shimsha River at Handihalla. The police said they have since retrieved the bag in this channel with the help of expert divers.
