Mangalore, Feb 15: A woman from Urva in the city, who has been accused of robbing gold ornaments of a lady after offering to her sweets mixed with intoxicating substance, was arrested by the Urva police on Friday February 14.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sujata alias Suma (42), a resident of Bejai New Road here.
She had reportedly taken away two bangles and two finger rings from the hands of a lady named Sridevi from Bejai Sankaigudda here on September 8, 2013. It is alleged that Sujata had offered a sweet, ‘Holige’, to Sridevi. Once the lady became unconscious after eating it, the accused had taken away her ornaments, it is alleged.
It is said that Sujata had met Sridevi in the latter’s house, on the pretext of hunting for a rented house in that locality. After pretending to inspect the house being offered on rent, she had befriended Sridevi, who lives in the neighbourhood, and offered the sweet she was carrying in her possession. Unsuspecting Sridevi consumed the sweet, after which she reportedly lost her consciousness.
The policemen of Urva, who had launched an operation to nab the accused, could lay their hands on her at Kottara Chowki on Friday, it is learnt.
