Udupi, Feb 14: In a strange incident reported from Gundmi Tagginabil near Sasthan in the district, a student barged into a house when a woman was alone, and tried to attack and rob her. The incident occurred at around 11 am on Thursday February 13.
The woman was alone at home after her husband left for work. She was attending to cooking, when a boy jumped over the compound wall, and threw a white cloth over her face from behind. He then tightened a nylon rope around her neck, and knocked her down. When he tried to bang her head against the ground, the woman fought back and escaped from his clutches. As soon as the she raised an alarm, the boy ran outside and jumped over the compound wall, and escaped, the woman said in her complaint filed at Kota police station.
Kota station house officer, K R Naik, and other personnel rushed to the spot immediately and succeeded in taking the boy into custody.
Initially, they had thought that it was a handiwork of professional robbers. The police said that to their surprise, they found that the accused is a SSLC student living in the neighbourhood. At the same time they expressed disappointment at the non-cooperative attitude of some neighbours who preferred to conceal information from the police in spite of knowing who was behind the act.
