Margao, Feb 11: A Konkani version of the Ramayana written by late Shalini Hegde, who taught Hindi in Loyola High School, Margao will be released on Friday February14 at 4 pm at Loyola High School Hall, Margao Goa.
Valmiki's Ramayana is believed to be the first poetic work written in Sanskrit; hence referred to as the Adikavya. Valmiki's colossal work influenced other great poems on the same theme.
Among these are the Hindi, Tamil and Bengali versions of the Ramayana written by Tulsidas in the North; Kamban in the South; and Krittivasa in the East.
One such book on the Ramayana has been written in the Konkani language by Shalini Hegde. She was a Math and French teacher at Loyola High School, Margao but also taught Hindi language for more than three decades.
This book is being released five years after her demise, at the hands of ex-principal of Loyola High School Fr Savio Rodrigues (Spiritual Ministry), in the presence of Fr Pedro Rodrigues , the principal of Loyola High School, senior retired teachers and students of Teacher Shalini.
Sushila Halarnkar, Konkani teacher and writer will speak about the book. Students and teaching colleagues of teacher Shalini and parents and teachers from neighboring schools are cordially invited to attend this book release program.
This book is the second publication of BMT Goa, a nonprofit Public Charitable Trust, engaged in creating opportunities for the all round development of students and society.
