Mangalore, Feb 11: "I proudly say that I am privileged to handle the first ever case in the new court complex of the district. I believe this court complex would facilitate speedy disposal of cases," said M P Noronha, senior advocate of Mangalore.
After acquiring conditional clearance certificate from the fire and emergency department, the new six-storied court complex started functioning on Monday, February 10, two days after it was officially inaugurated.

Currently two courts, namely, JMFC II (judicial magistrate of first class) and JMFC III courts have been relocated to the new building and in the next few days the remaining 18 courts are expected to operate in the new venue.
Apart from principal district and sessions court, there are as many as 18 courts in the district which will soon start functioning in the court complex. A few of the courts this building would accommodate are labour court, family court, six additional district courts and many more.
M P Norohna, senior advocate from Mangalore speaking to Daijiworld expressed his happiness on being the first lawyer to handle a case in the new building. “I am privileged for making the first representation in the court on behalf of the accused. It is a case that was won by me in the civil court and later registered in the criminal court.
"Earlier advocates had to rush to different courts whenver multiple hearings were scheduled on a day. But now advocates can work smoothly with zero commotion in the premises of the new court complex," he added
Moreover, he stressed that some of the cases were pending due to the delay in attending the proceedings. "Advocates now hope that the new court complex would give a big boost for speedy disposal of cases," he said.
Noronha said the court has been constructed with finesse and the court hall looks akin to the one in the high court of Karnataka. "Earlier, space constraint was a key problem which was causing inconvenience for both lawyers and the accused. But now the full-fledged court hall can accommodate a good number of people without creating any obstacles. Seating arrangement in the court hall is very convenient," he said.
For those who need to wait their turn for the hearing, the court has come up with a spacious waiting hall. People can wait as for long hours comfortably due to the ample space and ambience of the building.
Further speaking on the relocation of courts, he lamented that as of now the court accommodates only two courts in the building. JMFC II and JMFC III courts are currently functioning in the building. It is expected that the other 18 courts scattered in various places would be shifted to the new venue very soon.
The new building was constructed at a cost of around Rs 49 crore and was inaugurated on February 8 by Justice Bhaktavatsala, judge of Karnataka high court.
