Mangalore, Feb 10: St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), Mangalore celebrated the Mother Josephine Memorial Lecture 2014 on Saturday February 8.
Dr Sudhanshu Bhushan, professor and Head of the Department of Higher & Professional Education in the National University of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi in his talk “Quality Discourses and Silences of the Voices of Teachers” presented an eclectic view of quality perceived in terms of accountability that is imposed on a teacher.
The lecture began with the understanding of Academic Reform Agenda in the 12th Five Year Plan. It notes that “For Faculty to be actively engaged in the teaching – learning process, they need to have control over their task, time, technique and work environment, which is often not the case. Instead the sub-mission on higher education would pool all ongoing initiatives and new initiatives on faculty development under one umbrella for their implementation and better monitoring”.
The lecture also focused on discourse on Accreditation: Opening choices and competition, Employment of Graduates and various discourses surrounding excellence and its construction guided by the teachers who are at the heart of higher education system.
