Mangalore: Student from Gujarat drowns in Mulky

Mangalore, Feb 10: A fun outing by a group of students at Mulky ended in the tragic drowning of an 18-year-old youth from Gujarat.
The incident occured at Kolachi Kambla in Mulky near here on Sunday February 9.
The deceased has been identified as Jignesh (18) from Gujarat. He was a first year student of St Ann's College at Mulky.
Jignesh along with his classmates Viral, Sumarling, Nitesh and Prakash went for a swim in Shambhavi river on Sunday.
It is said that Jignesh and Viral swam towards the mouth of the river and were pulled in by the strong currents. Their friends rushed to their rescue and managed to save Viral. However, Jignesh was washed away.
The boys alerted the locals and the fire service. However, Jignesh was nowhere to be found.
Viral was admitted to a hospital.
Jignesh had recently joined the college. He was a first year student of BSc. His friends too are from Gujarat, sources said.
Mulky police have registered a case.
