Udupi: Robbery at Kaup - 2 men seeking 'donations' target woman, loot gold

Udupi, Feb 5: In a daylight robbery reported at Muloor in Kaup here on Wednesday February 5, two persons entered a house on the pretext of seeking 'donations' and made away with cash and gold after knocking out a woman with chloroform.
It is said that two persons came to a house at Muloor when the owner was away and rang the door bell. When the woman, identified as Sofia, a relative of the owner, opened the door, they told her that they had come to seek donations for the construction of a madrasa.
Sofia, believing their story to be true, went inside to fetch some money. Meanwhile, the two men entered the house, caught hold of Sophia and placed a cloth dipped in chorloform over her face. Sophia immediately lost consciousness.
The robbers then looted the house and escaped with four sovereigns of gold, Rs 6,000 in cash and a chain that Sofia was wearing.
The house belongs to Faizal Ibrahim, who stays in Dubai. At the time of the incident, his wife and children had been to visit Faizal's father who stays in the neighbourhood. Sofia, a relative, was alone at home.
The incident came to light when Faizal's wife returned home and saw Sofia lying unconscious on floor.
Sources said that after committing the robbery, the two men took a bus towards and alighted somewhere between Kaup and Katapady.
A case has been registered in Kaup police station.
