Mangalore: Haul of shame - Gold worth 13.48 lac seized at airport

Mangalore, Feb 3: The customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Monday February 3 apprehended yet another passenger for trying to smuggle in gold. In the seventh such case reported in just a month, the officials seized gold worth almost Rs 14 lac.
The gold was found in the suitcase of passenger Abdulla Haris Mukkunnoth Pallikunhi, a resident of Kasaragod.
Abdulla Haris arrived at Mangalore International Airport on February 3 at around 5.15 pm by Air India Express flight IX 384 from Dubai.
The officers of customs at the airpot seized 107 foil strips of gold, totally weighing 464.750 grams and valued at Rs 13,98,602 from the accused passenger.
The gold was concealed in ladies stocking retail packs inside Abdulla's suitcase.
Further investigation is under progress.
