Mangalore, Feb 3: The VHP and Bajrang Dal organized a protest near DC's office here on Monday February 3 condemning the alleged third degree treatment of Manoj, a Bajrang Dal activist, by Barke police personnel.
Manoj had been taken into custody by the police in connection with the assault Muneer at KC Road on January 21.
Addressing the protest, Sharan Pumpwell of Bajrang Dal, said, “We respect the law and also believe in the system. Our struggle is to protect our religion and the culture of this nation. Bajrang Dal severely condemns the brutal and inhuman treatment of Manoj.
"Is electrocuting an innocent person lawful? Even those accused of the gruesome crime in Deralakatte (forced sex case) were not subjected to this kind of treatment. The police have behaved inhumanly with the accused by giving him the third degree treatment.”
He also urged, "The police commissioner should immediately take action against the two constables Sunil and Isaac by suspending them and filing a case against them for punishing an innocent in an inhuman manner and subjecting him to third degree treatment. If this is not done, the Bajrang Dal will hold a protest at the city, district, and state levels."
Jagadish Shenava, district secretary of VHP, said, “Even during the Emergency there was no such treatment of prisoners. In an inhuman way, Manoj was subjected to third degree treatment by electrocution. In Deralakatte incident, though the accused committed a brutal crime and assaulted the police with lethal weapons, they were not subjected to third degree treatment. These two policemen should be suspended immediately or else the Bajrang Dal and VHP will hold a protest in the city.”
On this occasion, VHP secretary Gopal Kuthar, Krishnamurthy, and Bhujanga Kulal were present.
