Moodbidri municipality wins national award for solid waste management

Mangalore, Jan 31: Moodbidri town municipality has won a national award for its excellent achievement in solid waste management.
The award was handed over to chief official Rayappa by E S L Narasimhan, governor of Andhra Pradesh in a programme held in Hyderabad on Thursday, January 30.
Icon, an international organization based in Kolkata held a conference in this respect at Hyderabad from January 28 to January 30. Select town panchayats, town and corporation officials presented their achievements in solid waste management with details and documentary evidences. Moodbidri chief official Rayappa and health inspector had also taken part in it.
Moodbidri municipality and Andhra Pradesh Guntakal municipality were considered joint recipients of ‘Award for Excellence in Solid Waste Management' during the event. Bangalore’s Sira municipality won the second prize.
Dr Inayatulla, advisor at Bangalore’s solid waste management and staff at Bangalore University’s water resource engineering department, had visited Moodbidri municipality’s solid waste management unit at Karinje on January 18, conducted inspection and submitted his report. The municipality was selected to participate in the conference based on this report.
