Mangalore: 'Mahima Devachim' Wilfy Day on March 9
Media Release
Mangalore, Jan 29: Wilfy Day 2014 will be held on March 9 this year, in memory of legendary singer the late Wilfy Rebimbus. To plan for the event, the core members of the ‘Wilfy Rebimbus Admirers’ group came together recently.
Fr Pius D’Souza, OCD, superior of Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte and episcopal vicar in the Mangalore Diocese, presided over the meeting.
Eddie Sequeira, the convener of the last three successful Wilfy Days (two in Doha-Qatar and one in Mangalore) gave a brief introduction of this year’s programme ‘Mahima Devachin – Amar Wilfychya Uttrani’, wherein about 20 songs and hymns will be presented in a unique way by a group of singers and performers from in and around Mangalore. He stressed that this day is not organized by any individual or group but by all the admirers of the late Wilfy to pay tribute to him and his work on his 4th death anniversary. He asked for support from all to make this a successful event.
Eddie recalled that in December 2011, during the third anniversary celebration of 'Naman Ballok Jesu', a Konkani monthly published by Infant Jesus Shrine, a symposium was organized on the songs and literature of Wilfy Rebimbus, wherein Fr Dr Pius James D’Souza in his presentation had linked Wilfy to a Psalmist, explaining the presence of the Word of God in Wilfy’s songs and that is what inspired him to come out with ‘Mahima Devachim’, specially as this day comes in the Lenten period.
Fr Pius in his address appreciated the efforts of 'Wilfy Admirers' in organizing event on the chosen theme.
He said while Wilfy’s songs have deeper meaning, lots of moral and religious values, his hymns too, because of their divine lyrics and soothing tunes, make the listener reflect on God and life. "Thus it will not be just an evening of entertainment but a time to reflect on our faith and walk this journey of Lent," he said.
Fr Pius also pointed out that the diocese of Mangalore has declared this year as a ‘Year of Reconciliation’ and the ‘Parable of the Prodigal Son’ that is going to be enacted will convey an apt message for this year. With the pattern of the programme and songs chosen he concluded that ‘Wilfy Day’ will surely be successful in presenting Wilfy in a new light.
Rebimbus family members Meena, Vishwas and Charlene along with Prem Kumar Lobo, Babita D’Sa, the Pinto brothers-Vivian, Merwin and Joswin, senior artiste Francis Ruzai and many other artistes and well-wishers were present on this occasion.
