Lokayukta raids in Mangalore, Uppinangady unearth wealth

Mangalore, Jan 30 (DHNS): The Lokayukta sleuths raided the house of food and civil Supplies department depot manager M V Rajan Nambiar and Bantwal taluk office First Division Assistant Omprakash Hegde, simultaneously in Mangalore and Uppinangady, on the charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known source of income, on Wednesday.
The Lokayukta police said Nambiar was owning a one-floor house at Yeyyadi. The house was fully furnished. About 600 grams of gold was found in the house. He had Rs six lakh in his account. Rs 90,000 was in the house. He owns three cars.
Rajan’s wife is a teacher in Kendriya Vidyalaya and is serving for the last seven years. Rajan was in government service for the last 28 years.
The wealth found in the house is said to be 200 per cent more than the source of their income.
“Rajan has two children— daughter is a medical student and son is an engineering student. Both have not gained admission to colleges under government quota, which will also be considered. The assessment of wealth is not complete,” said the Lokayukta police.
“We have not arrested Rajan. We have sought explanation on the wealth and property owners by him. If he fails to prove, measures will be taken to seize the property,” the police said.
Meanwhile, the sleuths also raided the house of First Division Assistant Omprakash Hegde, at Uppinangady.
He has 1,317 gram gold jewellery and Rs 10 lakh in his account. He also owns a few sites and vehicles. About 602 gram gold jewellery was found at home, and 715 gram gold jewellery was in the locker.
Hegde owns a house worth Rs 20 lakh at Uppinangady, an incomplete house worth Rs 8 lakh at Lakshminagara, two sites, two cars and two bikes, said Lokayukta DySP Vittaldas Pai.

Mangalore, Jan 29: Lokayukta police on Wednesday January 29 raided the residence of M V Rajan Nambiar, godown manager of food and civil supplies department for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Lokayukta officials are verifying his property documents and assets at his residence in Kopalkad, Yeyyadi.
Lokayukta DySP Umesh and Lokayukta inspector Mohan Kottari led the raid operation.
The raid began early morning.
