Mangalore: Protestors oppose Yettinahole project by stopping train

Mangalore, Jan 28: The members of Karavali Jeevanadhi Netravati Rakshana Samiti on Tuesday January 28 staged a 'rail roko' protest against the proposed Netravati river diversion or Yettinahole project at Kankanady railway station.
The protest was held under the leadership of former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty.
Nearly 75 to 80 protestors stopped the Karwar - Bangalore train for about 20 minutes and expressed their anger and opposition to the proposed project.
It is learnt that the foundation stone laying ceremony for this project is scheduled to be held on Januray 31 and hence as part of the massive protest, the rail roko protest was held on January 28. The main aim of the protest was to get bring issue to the notice of the central government, the chief minister, state ministers and other officials and give a warning.
Leaders Vijay Kumar Shetty, P V Mohan, M G Hegde, Dennis D’Silva, T K Sudhir, Krithin Kumar, corporator Prakash, Ramanand Poojary, Suresh Shetty, Hemanth Garodi, Hussain Katipalla, Abdul Sattar, Jayakar Samarth, Nelson and others were present.
