Karkala, Jan 29: "In a family, the husband should love his wife, and the wife should respect her husband. Every married woman is a reflection of her husband. When the children are brought up with human values, the family will be a cradle of peace," said Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi diocese.
He was speaking while offering the Mass at the annual feast of Attur Shrine on Tuesday January 28.
The bishop asked the parents to guide the children in a moral way and said that children should be obedient to their parents.
"God created family on earth. He was the one who created man and woman and blessed them with children.
The son of God came to earth to proclaim the sanctity of family. Jesus Christ was obedient to his parents. The values followed by him should become our values too," he said.
Attur parish priest Fr George D’ Souza and priests from other parishes were present.
The three day feast at St Lawrence pilgrimage center at Attur was set in motion on Tuesday. Thousands of devotees who arrived in the afternoon, prayed to St Lawrence, lighted candles and sought blessings.
