Mumbai: Thrilling drama '...Nathlyaa Vellaar' spellbinds Mira Road

Mumbai, Jan 26: The thrilling, super-hit Konkani drama 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellaar' was presented by Daiji Rang Mandir, the cultural wing of Daiji Dubai, to a packed audience at St Joseph's Church ground, Mira Road here on Saturday January 25. The show was organized by St Joseph's Konkani welfare association, Mira Road.
Adopted from its Marathi original written by Madhusudan Kalelkar and translated to Kannada by Ramanand Choorya, the Konkani play was directed by the well-known Dayan D'Souza, who also charmed the audience with his brilliant performance on stage.
This was the sixth presentation of the drama since April 2012 when it was first staged in Dubai. The critically acclaimed drama witnessed much appreciation in Udupi, Bangalore, Doha and Abu Dhabi where it was performed during 2013.
Artistes Walter Nandalike who played the lead role of navy commander Herman Sequeira, Asha Correa as the commander's wife Gloria, Dayan D'Souza who portrayed the role of the wise Nazareth Mestry and Alphonse D'Souza in the role of the menacing Sunil Kumar enchanted the audience with their powerful performances and truly did justice to their roles.
Cynthia Pinto as Florine, Dony Correa as D’Sa, the former high court judge, Pradeep Barboza as the public prosecutor, and Alwyn Pinto as judge captivated the audience as well. Godwin Castelino as Benna and Lavina Fernandes as Minna added a generous dose of humour in their comic roles. Young Reagan Fernandes was impressive in his performance as Bunty, the son of the Herman and Gloria.
Sound effects and background music by Arun Almeida and Ketan D'Souza added to the thrilling atmosphere of the drama.
During the interval, a simple ceremony was held during which parish priest of St Joseph's Church Fr Dominic Vas was the chief guest. Entrepreneur Denis Rebeiro, Robert Noronha, Daiji Dubai Writers' Forum founder Hemacharya, president Rony Byndoor, and veteran theatre artiste Francis Fernandes Cascia were the guests of honour.
'Naach Konkanant', an album by Rayan D'Souza and Reena D'Souza was released by the guests.
St Joseph's Konkani Welfare Association president John Crasta welcomed, while cultural secretary Hilary D'Silva compered. Honorary secretary Arun Noronha thanked the gathering.
Senior artiste Harry Boy, Ivan Rebello Barkur, honorary secretary Sunil Sequeira Kota, St Joseph's Konkani Welfare Association president Celine Mendonca, treasurer Lawrence Mathias, joint secretary Deigo Rodgrigues, assistant secretary Richard Mathias, joint treasurer John Correa, Sophia D'Souza, Stephen Martis, Maria Goretti, Lydia D'Souza, Francis Mathias and others were present.
