Karkala: Bailur Kishan Hegde conferred Kundeshwar Award

Karkala, Jan 26: Bailur Kishan Hegde, convener of five Yakshagana Melas was conferred the Kundeshwar Award during Hirgana Sri Kundeshwara temple festival.
Kishan Hegde who spoke after receiving the award said that Yakshagana is not only an art but a culture and religion. "It should be performed like the work of God. While there is criticism that respect for heritage is lacking among the modern day youth, it is gratifying to see youngsters perform Bayalata in Kundeshwar, which indicates that there is good future for Yakshagana," he said.
"Kishan Hegde has nurtured Yakshagana culture by managing Saligrama Dere Mela, Hiriadka, Haladi, Madamakki and Saukooru Melas. Kishan Hegde has preserved the Yakshagana culture and made it grow under the guidance of Palli Somanatha Hegde. He is a unique organizer of Yaksharanga," said journalist Jitendra Kundeshwar.
Kshetra trustee the late Raghavendra Bhat had formed several theatre and Yakshagana troupes and served as convener and trustee, and thereby became a beacon of light to young artistes. Hence artistes who have excelled in the field are awarded Kundeshwar Award in his memory, said trustee Krishnarajendra Bhat said
Senior Yakshagana artiste Nadibettu Dharmaraja Kattada, former trustee of Laxmipura temple Babanna Vagle and businessman Siriyanna Shetty were present. Ashwatnarayana Vagle, Prakash Vagle, Yashwanth, Sadashiva and Shanker Ambelkar assisted.
Religious and cultural programmes were held in Kundeshwar from Tuesday, January 21 to Friday January 24 with gaiety.
