Mangalore, Jan 22: All like-minded environmental organizations, along with citizens of Mangalore will hold a protest at Freedom Park in Bangalore against the Yettinahole or Netravati River Diversion Project on January 28, said social activist M G Hegde.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday January 22, he criticized union minister Veerappa Moily for his comments in favour of Yettinahole Project, and said, "Moily claims that he had held discussions regarding the Yettinahole project with experts, but he should also disclose when and with whom he had discussed the project. Has he convened any meeting with people of the coastal area, environmental experts, DC or with officials? He should brief these details through the media.
"Veerappa Moily’s political career began from here, he used Dakshina Kannada as a stepping stone for his political growth but now he is insulting and deceiving the people of Dakshina Kannada with Yettinahole project for his political interest. Let Veerappa Moily hold a press conference and release the project report. Moily is not only a politician but also litterateur, hence he should have guided us. If he does not stop this project from materialising, we activists will hold a protest against him waving black flags and also question Moily about this issue in all public functions," he warned.
"Even former chief ministers D V Sadananda Gowda is confused about the project. Why this confusion? We the people of coastal area will never allow this project," he asserted.
"We request MLAs, MP, ministers and all political leaders irrespective of party affiliations, and NGOs to join this cause. There will also be protests in Uppinangady against this project on January 24 at around 9 am," he added.
On this occasion Suresh Shetty, V R Puthran, Anitha Shivaraj, Shashikala, Dinesh Shetty and others were present.
