Udupi, Jan 22: The teenage girl who was allegedly assaulted by a group of 30-40 persons on Sunday January 19 and who was initially sent back by the doctor without proper treatment, has been admitted to Ajjarkad hospital. The girl's father who came to her rescue too was allegedly assaulted.
The girl is said to have developed severe back pain and bleeding after which she was rushed to Ajjarkad hospital, sources said.
The family said that when the girl was taken to a hospital in Shirva along with her father soon after the incident, she was not given proper treatment and was sent back by the doctor. "But the other party who assaulted her were admitted to a hospital by the same doctor," the family alleged, claiming that the Shirva doctor had been 'influenced' by powerful people or the police.
Members of Udupi IFKCA visited the girl at the hospital. Speaking to reporters, Udupi IFKCA president Prashant Jatanna said, "When patients come to hospital for treatment, it is duty of the doctor to diagnose them without getting influenced by any higher authority."
He also added that Vinay Kumar Sorake had helped the family in the matter even though initially he was busy. "Vinay Kumar Sorake might have been busy in a meeting at the time of the incident and hence was unable to receive the family's call for help. But later he personally spoke to the police and instructed them to file an FIR against the accused. It was just a misunderstanding," he said.
The 17-year-old girl and her father were allegedly beaten up and verbally abused by a big group of around 30-40 persons, some of whom were identified as Dheeraj Shetty, Suresh, Sushant, Subya, Vishwanath and Vanaja. A land dispute between the parties resulted in the incident. A counter complaint was also filed by Shyamala Acharya who alleged that the family had opposed the construction of a compound wall on Sunday and used foul language.
No arrests have been made yet.
