Mangalore: Gold worth Rs 12.14 lac seized from passenger at Airport

Mangalore, Jan 21: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport seized gold worth Rs 12.14 lac from a passenger on Tuesday January 21.

The passenger was identified as Abdul Basheer Puthiyavalappu Moideenkutty, a resident of Puthiyavalappu, Chengala, Kasargod.

The customs officials seized five gold wires coated with silver paint totally weighing 406.180 grams approximately valued at Rs 12,14,478.

The gold wires were concealed in the beading of a strolley suitcase belonging to Basheer.

Basheer arrived at the airport on January 21 at around 7.45 am by Air India Express flight IX 814 from Dubai.

    Kasargod has really become a smuggling hub because most of the gold seized in Mangalore Airport is from the passengers belongs to Kasargod.Special vigilence needs to be introduced to nab these smugglers.Thanq.

    Somehow it Looks like Gold has a magnetic attraction to People of kasarggod.otherwise why so many People are trying all possible methods taking Trouble and at last loosing in Mangalore.oneday kasargod People will build their houses with Gold pillers or top instead of iron and cement.

    Most of these people who carry gold are poor laborers in Dubai, who carry gold for a free ticket and 25000 Indian rupees. The gold belongs to somebody else.

    Thanks to these people, nowadays there is a body screening of international passengers in the Mangalore airport when we disembark too! I wonder how much gold these people might have smuggled at the beginning when there were no sophisticated machineries to detect it.

    Nowadays I think they will teach children different story...from the Mangalore International Airport...
