Kasargod: Food poisoning - Over 70 school children fall ill

Kasargod, Jan 21: More than seventy students of Periya Jawahar Navodaya School fell ill due to food poisoning. The affected students were admitted to Kanhangad district hospital and are recovering.

The students fell sick reportedly after they consumed rice gruel and vegetables on Sunday January 19. 

Children had vomited and developed other symptoms of illness and were admitted to the hospital. None of them have developed serious complications and are recovering, as per hospital sources.

The officials have taken samples of the food consumed by children in order to test them.  The officials also sealed the kitchen of the school where the food had been prepared. It is said that as there was water shortage on Sunday, the water was brought from outside. Health officials have also taken samples of the water, it is learnt.

Commissioner P S Mohammed Sageer, DySP P Thamban and others have visited the place and conducted investigations.

    Small children will get sick very fast than the adults.Thatswhy Hygiene ,cleanliness is very important.Nowadays we hear many a times children get sick with School Food.its absolute carelessness.Here when in canteen or Hospital,kG.,before Food supply goes out,a sample is taken and kept in refrigerator for 7days.suppose when someone gets sick,immediately These samples are investigated in the lab.to find out what was the cause.In india also when such method Comes in Action.then can find out where is gone wrong.(if ref.is existing and electr.doesnt fail)hope children are recovering soon.

    They used water from outside, but from where? Is it a dirty pond? How the school principal maintains such canteen? He should visit and check daily. The water used from the pond may be full of bacteria which their science teacher teaches them at school. Did she eat????

    School food should have a regular quality check and those who don't maintain quality must be punished. Food should be prepared in a hygienic place otherwise they are worst than murderers.

    Kitchen staff does not see or maintain minimum hygiene in many kitchens, forget about safety standards in meals, No one cares. Who will give governance and find solutions to these problems? On the whole we are becoming irresponsible and selfish. What a sad state of affairs, we can only pray and hope that innocent kids will not die either of hunger or due to negligence and malpractice…
