Mangalore: Thousands walk to Kateel Temple as part of 'Ammanadege Namma Nade'

Mangalore, Jan 20: Nearly 10,000 people joined the ‘Ammanadege Namma Nade’, a walk that was organized by Kateel Padeyatre Samithi, from Maravoor to Kateel.

Thousands of people irrespective of age participated enthusiastically in the walk that was flagged off around 2.30 pm from the Durgaparameshwari Temple in Maravoor to Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple. The walk was accompanied with prayers, ‘bhajans’, and devotion in oneself to seek blessing from Goddess Durga.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Sandeep Shetty Maravoor, president of the committee, said, “Along with my friends, I used to walk to Kateel Temple once in a while for nearly two years. As walking to the temple is one of the most important services that one can render to  God, we wanted to unite many people and make them walk to the temple. As a result, a committee was formed and this event was organized wherein nearly 10,000 people participated to seek blessings from the Goddess.”

Not just individuals, a number of dignitaries and political leaders irrespective of party, businessmen, and others participated in this walk. The colourful procession included tableaux, ‘chende’ and bhajans.

    We already have many religious road shows. So, do we really require one more such road show ? Why can't we confine our devotion to the four walls of our House or Temple ?
    Any such public religious events, which, once started, it will continue for ages without knowing the Original intention and its reigns will gradually pass on to the hands of political minded fanatics after a few years and the result of which we have already seen in Datta Guru Peeta at Chikmagalur.

    Yes, you are right Mr. Shetty Baroda, the Original intention of Starting Public ( Sarvajanik) Ganesh Festival by BalaGangadhar Tilak was to provide a platform for freedom fighters to come together. Tilak wanted this Public Ganesh festival to stop immediately after Independence and confine the same only to individual houses. But Tilak's wishes were never respected by people after India's Independence.

    This is a really good gesture of devotees to walk to Kateel Temple as part of 'Ammanadege Namma Nade.Kateel temple is the famous Hindu Temple in our coastal area especially Mangaloe.Thanq.

    We have to respect all "Mothers"(Amma)and we will come to know the value of a girl. If we take care of our mother we will be protected by the Goddess.

    The news about assault, rape will reduce to the maximum.

    It is nice to see thousands of people of all ages walking from Maravoor to Kateel in devotion for seeking blessings of Sree Kateeleshwari.In olden days I have seen people in groups walking through roads from various parts of DK Dist to Kateel temple on various occasions like the temple annual festival,Navarathri celebrations,Shravan months,to see Yakshagana bayalata on Pattanaje day etc.,Nowadays people prefer to travel bus busses and cars instead of walking.Any way I wish The organizers of this programme blessings by Sree Devi.
    Kateel is a very special a place in shrines of undivided DK dist as it as the temple is situated amidst Nandini river.Though the place is lacking in basic facilities for visiting devotees,I would like to highlight one important point that concerns the visiting devotee.
    In Kateel in earlier days "theertha snana"(Taking bath)was considered as very auspicious before one visits the temple.Now a days for a few years, this is not possible due to the pollution of water due to releasing the drainage water from local temple lodges to the river.I wish that place should have a good drainage facility and the Nandini river be made pure to take a bath by visiting devotees.I request the organizers of todays programme/devotees to pressurise the local adminstration/local MLA/MP to become the holly Nandini river pure, free from pollution.If this happens that would be a great devine service to Sree Durga.May Sree Kateeleshwati bless all.
