Countdown begins for Daiji Dubai's 15th anniversary in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 20: The red carpet is all set to be rolled out for Daiji Dubai, a forum of Konkani Writers in the UAE, for its fifteenth anniversary bash at Dr M Vishveshwarayya Smarak Mandir at Karnataka Sangha Hall, Matunga West, Mumbai on January 26 from 9.30 am onwards.
Daiji Dubai has always held its annual celebrations in Dubai. However, the long established practice was broken when they rejoiced in their 14th anniversary back home by embracing the Konkani enthusiasts of South Canara last year. Now they are all set to mark a new milestone by reaching Konkani lovers of Mumbai.
As per Daiji Dubai tradition, the prestigious ‘Daiji Puroskar’ will be awarded to a Konkani litterateur on the occasion. To date, fourteen Konkani litterateurs have been bestowed this award. This year, well-known writer and novelist Stan Ageira, Mulki has been nominated to receive the prestigious award. He will be conferred Daiji Dubai Literary Award, consisting of a memento, a citation and Rs 75,000 prize money.
In addition, to encourage and motivate young Konkani play writers and theater artistes, the Late Mic Max Memorial Award will be launched on same occasion. Along with this, a promo of Daijiworld.com's new corporate office in Mangalore will be displayed on the same day in the presence of an august gathering of eminent guests and Konkani enthusiasts.
Young entrepreneur from Bangalore, Nigel Colaco will be the chief guest. There will be guests of honour from Mangalore, Dubai and Mumbai.
A collection of Konkani short stories “Devacheya Bhagevontano” written by Naveen Kurbil, Kinnigoli and published by Daiji Publications will be released during the event.
The magnificent celebration at Mumbai on January 26 will include the full length critically acclaimed stage play 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellar' directed by highly admired Dayan D’souza. The play shall be staged by Daiji Rang Mandir, the cultural wing of Daiji Dubai. The play, originally in Marathi by Madhusudan Kalelkar and translated to Kannada by Ramanand Choorya, is expected to witness a packed gathering. The play was successfully staged in Dubai in 2012, and Udupi, Bangalore, Doha and Abu Dhabi during the last year.
On public demand the same play will be staged at Mira Road on Saturday, January 25 at7 pm at St Joseph’s Church open ground by the Konkani community of Mira Road parish.
Besides its cultural identity in Konkani literature causes, ‘Daiji Dubai’ is also associated with many worthy social causes thereby motivating other people and organizations worldwide. Daiji Dubai is eagerly looking forward to present this event with a request to Konkani lovers across Mumbai to be present in large numbers.
St Peter’s Association, Barkur, Mumbai will take the responsibility of event management. Vitori Karkol, renowned master of ceremony will compere the event.
