Mumbai, May 14: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Mumbai police on Saturday seized another consignment of weapons from Ankai Fort at Manmad in Nasik district, about 180 km from Mumbai, as four locals were arrested in Malegaon from the same district in connection with Tuesday’s seizure of arms and explosives.
The ATS had seized an AK-47 rifle, 200 rounds and a magazine, which was hidden in a computer server cabinet, while it had also recovered 50 hand grenades from a carton, ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said.
The huge arms cache, which ATS recovered on Tuesday from three Lashkar-e-Taiba suspects in Aurangabad in the state, was also hidden in computer server cabinets.
A second group of LeT suspects, who fled when police intercepted them on Tuesday near Aurangabad, could have dumped the arms out of fear of getting caught, Raghuvanshi said.
Meanwhile, four persons from Malegaon were held on Saturday on the charge of assisting the three LeT suspects, in ferrying arms and explosives, taking the total number of those arrested in the case to eight.
The arrested were involved in changing registration number plates of the two four-wheelers in which the LeT suspects had been carrying arms and explosives.
