Barcelona, Jan 17 (IANS): Barcelona football club has announced that it will take part in the "Barcelona Action", a competition held in China whose winners will enjoy a Barca match and will travel around Catalonia for one week.
The competition, held for the third consecutive year, is also aiming to attract more Chinese visitors to the Mediterranean region, reports Xinhua.
The four winners of the competition will visit Catalonia and Barcelona from March 22 to 24 this year and will watch the match between Barcelona and Celta de Vigo.
The competition started last week and consists of two phases: In the first one the team's followers have to publish content related to Barca on the Tencent Weibo social network and in the second phase they have to answer a quiz on Barca and Catalonia issues and publish a video explaining their experience with Barcelona.
Barca is well known in China and has many fans. Its official page in Weibo with more than 2 million followers is an example of that.
In previous editions of this competition Catalunya Turisme received more than 10,000 messages from Chinese fans telling their experiences while the competition website received a total of 2.5 million visits.
In the first and second editions seven Barca fans visited the Camp Nou and enjoyed the modernist architecture of Gaudi, Dali's paintings, the nature of this Mediterranean region and its cuisine.
The Club will inform through their official website in China about the phases of the competition and the names of the winners will be published March 6.
Catalonia receives a large number of international tourists throughout the year and is one of the main tourist destinations in Spain, which received a total of 60.4 million tourists in 2014 according to the employer's organisation of the sector (Exceltur).
Spain received a total of 177,100 Chinese tourists in 2012 being the second largest market for both Spain and Catalonia that received more than 103,000 Chinese visitors in 2012.
