Mumbai, Jan 17 (IANS): Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed biopic "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" triumphed at the 9th Renault Star Guild Awards by winning eight awards, including best film, best director and best actor trophy for Farhan Akhtar for portraying former athlete Milkha Singh.
The award ceremony, held Thursday, also saw Deepika Padukone winning the best actress trophy for "Chennai Express", while Divya Dutta won the best supporting actress award for "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag".
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", a biopic on Milkha Singh, saw Prasoon Joshi clinching two awards for best story and best screenplay, while the film also won the best sound design award for Nakul Kamte and the best cinematography award for Binod Pradhan.
Well-known writer Salim Khan and yesteryears actress Tanuja were honoured with lifetime achievement honours, while the entertainer of the year title went to Shah Rukh Khan.
The K.A. Abbas Award for social sensitivity in Hindi cinema went to "Shahid", a biopic on slain lawyer Shahid Azmi.
Star verdict of the year trophy went to Irrfan for "The Lunchbox", which also won the Yash Chopra award for the most promising debut director for Ritesh Batra.
Also, talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui won the best actor in a supporting role award for his work in "The Lunchbox".
Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor were declared the best pair of the year for their chemistry in "Aashiqui 2".
Most promising male and female debut awards went to Sushant Singh Rajput ("Kai Po Che") and Vaani Kapoor ("Shuddh Desi Romance") respectively.
The Hindi films favourite funnyman Arshad Warsi and Varun Sharma shared the best performance in a comic role award for their respective films "Jolly LLB" and "Fukrey".
Supriya Pathak walked away with best performance in a negative role trophy for "Goliyon Ka Rasleela: Ramleela".
Arijit Singh won the best playback singer (male) for the song "Tum hi ho" for "Aashiqui 2", while Bhoomi Trivedi was declared the best playback singer (female)for crooning "Ram chahe Leela" for "Goliyon Ka Rasleela: Ramleela"
