Micahel Douglas roped in for 'Ant-Man'


Los Angeles, Jan 14 (IANS): Hollywod actor Michael Douglas has joined the cast of upcoming superhero film "Ant-Man". He will essay scientist Henry 'Hank' Pym in the movie.

Douglas, 69, who won the best actor award in mini-series or motion picture made for television category at the 71st Golden Globe Awards Sunday, was pursued early on for the part, but he was cautious until sources said he had a change of heart over the holidays, reports variety.com.

"Ant-Man" is being helmed by Edgar Wright, who also co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige expressed his excitement over the two-time Oscar winner joining the cast

"With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves," Kevin said.

"We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life," he added.

Actor Paul Rudd will take on the lead role of Scott Lang in the movie.

Ant-Man is a fictional debuted character that has the ability to shape-shift from nearly microscopic to 100 feet, and maintains strength of normal size even when in a shrunken state.

"Ant-Man" is scheduled to release July 31, 2015.
