Mangalore, Jan 14: Larissa Vas, a first BCom student of St Aloysius College (SAC), has been elected convenor of National Women’s Commission (NWC).
The elections were held recently at AICUF House, Chennai. Incidentally, Larissa is the second CWC convenor to be elected from SAC, after Lizzel Pinto.
Larissa Vaz is the daughter of Norbert Lancy Vas and Lidwin Irene Vas. As convenor of NWC, she will shoulder the responsibility of organising various activities and programmes throughout the year for women studying in colleges.
Speaking on her task, Larissa said: “Though this position is just for this year, I consider the responsibility as something that is lifelong. It has motivated me to work for the cause of women throughout my life to make sure that women are respected and cared for and not toyed around.”
In-charge of the campus ministry and the vice-principal of SAC Fr Francis Almeida, and the president of SAC AICUF, Anoop Denzil Veigas have congratulated Larissa.
"This is indeed a big achievement for Larissa at this young age. I also hope that AICUF will produce large number of women of substance for the future of our nation," said Fr Almeida.
