Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore/Udupi
Mangalore / Udupi, Jan 14: Despite reports of Harsha Moily's attempt to get ticket from Mangalore Lok Sabha seat and Rahul Gandhi's strict guidelines of age and past track records, B Janardhan Poojary, senior Congress leader, at 76, is all set to get one more chance to prove his political strength in Mangalore. Sources close to Congress party have revealed that only Janardhan Poojary's name was recommended for Mangalore seat. Hence, if no major lobbying is done by others, Poojary is all set to get the ticket from here.
Similarly, from Udupi-Chikmaglur constituency, J P Hegde who got less than two years to serve as MP after his tremendous victory against Sunil Kumar of BJP in the 2012 bypoll, has emerged as the only recommendation from Udupi constituency.
The recent Congress wave in the twin districts helped Congress candidates bag their respective seats, but challenge could be tougher this time as all political parties have swung into aggressive canvassing mode for LS election. In addition, there is also the AAP factor which cannot be ruled out easily.
From 11 constituencies in Karnataka, only one candidate's name has been finalised, unless Rahul Gandhi exercises his 'veto' power all these 11 candidates are expected to get Congress tickets for the upcoming LS polls:
