New Delhi, May 11: Congress President Sonia Gandhi's massive win in the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha bye-election on Thursday triggered a demand from a group of party MPs that she take over as Prime Minister, a campaign she nipped in the bud almost instantly.
"This talk is not proper. There should not be such talk in the party," she told reporters at her residence here, savouring her victory in Rae Bareli.
Gandhi, who had refused the top political post after leading her party to success in the 2004 general elections, had also let it be known that she was not happy with the demand of MPs led by former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi that she take over as Prime Minister and make her son Rahul the party chief.
Jogi collected a group of 25 MPs, mostly belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs, to initiate a signature campaign for her taking over as Prime Minister.
