Mangalore: T S N Murthy appointed new chairman of NMPT

Mangalore, Jan 8: T S N Murthy, IRS, has been appointed as chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust by the ministry of shipping with effect from January 1, following the superannuation of Dr P Tamilvanan on December 31, 2013.
T S N Murthy, an IRS officer of 1990 batch joined NMPT on May 3, 2010 as its deputy chairman. Prior to this he was serving as joint commissioner in the income tax department. He was elevated to the post of income tax commissioner on December 6, 2013.
During his three-year tenure at the port, Murthy, who is a nature lover, transformed the Port as the greenest and the cleanest Port in the country by his personal intervention in adding and maintaining greenery and cleanliness at the Port as well as in its vicinity. These initiatives contributed to the Port winning Green Tech award in gold category in port sector, Aranya Mithra Award from the government of Karnataka and Vocational Excellence Award for NMPT.
While assuming the additional charges of chairman, NMPT, Murthy has requested the support and cooperation of all the officers, staff, cargo handling workers, trade unions, trustees, port users, all stake holders connected with the Port and the print and electronic media for the overall growth of the Port.
