Mangalore, Jan 7: "The Jagruta Mahila Vedike will hold a district-level mass protest rally and awareness programme on Thursday December 9 from Ambedkar circle to DC's office against the brutal incident of kidnap and forced sex on a student at Deralakatte. BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani, Uma Bharti, and Mamatha Yadav of ABVP will take part in this programme," said Dr Kamala Prabhakar Bhat, honorary president of Jagruta Mahila Vedike.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday January 6, she said, "Although from past 10 years 3,000 girls have gone missing, the government has not taken any action. Even in Deralakatte incident the police failed to frame rape charges initially, hence women do not have any security."
Kamala Bhat expressed doubts of conspiracy by naming the other person who was kidnapped with the girl, and said that 'a thorough probe should be done on this matter'.
At this, a few media persons pointed out, "You have revealed the name of the victim’s friend which will lead to the disclosing of the victim's identity."
An argument over revealing of the kidnapped youth's name thus ensued between the journalists and members of Jagruta Mahila Vedike.
Asha Jagadish said, "The victim girl clearly mentioned his name in the complaint, and Jagruta Mahila Vedike suspects the victim's friend's involvement in the incident, and hence proper probe should be conducted."
After a few rounds of heated exchange of words, the journalists said that they should not have revealed the name of youth and walked out from the press meet.
