Mangalore: 8th Kavita Fest to witness poets from Goa, Kerala, Karnataka

Mangalore, Jan 7: Kavita Fest, the annual poetry festival hosted by Kavita Trust is scheduled to be held at Town Hall here on Sunday, January 12. The festival is being held in association with Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation.
Apart from Karnataka, poets belonging to the state of Goa and Kerala will take part in the event. Eminent Kannada writer Vivek Shanbhogue will inaugurate the festival.

The programme will begin at 9.30 am with a procession accompanied by bands. Later, chief guest Vivek Shanbhogue will deliver a keynote address on the topic ‘Poetry and Freedom of Expression’. Antony Barkur and Jerry Rasquinha will speak as respondents to the chief guest's speech.
A collection of poems titled 'Anjurachem Paan' by Andrew L D'Cunha will be released during the occasion.
As many as 31 young poets will present their poems, as a final round of Rohan and Lavita Monteiro All-India Konkani Kavita Competition.
At 3 pm, poet Sanjeev Verenkar will preside over a multi-lingual poetry session, where, in addition to Konkani, poems in Kannada, Tulu and Beary languages will be presented and discussed.
Rahmath Tarikere will be the chief guest for the valedictory session. Basti Vaman Shenoy, Rohan Monteiro and Lavita Monteiro will be the guests of honour. Here, winners of the Late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues Memorial All-India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition and winners of poetry reciting will be awarded. Poet Yusuf Abdulla Sheik will be honoured with Mathias Family Poetry Award. This award consists of Rs 10,000 cash, memento and a certificate.
The evening will witness a folk dance from the Kudumbi community led by Yedapadav Gopal Gowda.
