Mid-Day
Mumbai, May 8: A 14-year-old girl has accused 90 men of raping her over a period of two years.
Shazia Aasiq Ali (name changed to protect her identity), who lives with her father and younger sister in the slums near Shreyas Talkies, Ghatkopar, registered a complaint at the RCF police station, Chembur, last night.
In her complaint, Shazia stated that she was repeatedly raped by her grandfathers, relatives and father’s friends in her hometown, as well as in Mumbai.
“My relatives and neighbours used lure me by giving me chocolates. When I went to their homes they would take advantage of me. At first I couldn’t gather the courage to speak to abba about it. But somehow, I managed to tell him everything. He took me to the police,” said Shazia.
The police said that Shazia told them in her statement that she didn’t say anything for two years as the men threatened her.
The RCF police station has registered a complaint against 21 people from Mumbai, including Shazia’s relatives and family members.
“I always suspected something, as she used to be away from home for long hours. When she told me that so many people had raped her, I was shocked. I felt like committing suicide when she came crying and told me about it. I immediately took her to the police station,” said Shazia’s father Aasik Ali (32), a tailor.
Brainwashed?
However, some relatives and neighbours alleged that she was never raped, and that she was brainwashed by her father.
“How is it possible for a 14-year-old to be raped repeatedly by so many people? It is not true. Shazia’s father is just settling his personal scores with family members and others,” said Shennaz, Shazia’s aunt.
“We have registered a complaint and have brought some people in for interrogation. But it is difficult to confirm anything before the medical tests are done,” said the investigating officer from RCF police station.
